Printed in 1991, The Sacred Cenote was
made at the Edinburgh College of Art Printmaking and Post Graduate School,
based at Inverleith, where Lamb was a young tutor. Head of Department, Bob
Callender, had acquired a large Mailander offset press with a 40 x 54 inch bed so
that the college could offer lithography on a grand scale to students and Lamb
printed various very large works on this press in the 1980s and 90s. The
Sacred Cenote was printed from zinc plate and plywood in two sections which
were abutted together to make one image. The work references a Mayan well in Chichen
Itza, a historical site in the Yucatan.
