The main character in this work is St. Anthony of Padua. The unfortunate Saint’s faith was always being tested by a variety of horrors and visions. His many trials and tribulations are the subject of paintings and prints.
Scatter is based on a painting, St. Anthony beaten by Devils, by Sassetta. Both paintings show him at the mercy of demons. The contemporary work also depicts the Saint’s apocalyptic visions. These are gradually subdued allowing in the light of day.
