This work is inspired by Theophilus Schweighardt’s 1618 illustration, The Invisible College of the Rosy Cross. The College has been described as a precursor to the Royal Society and is linked to notorious alchemists like Robert Fludd, and John Dee. I liked the idea of a College that studied invisible forces, alchemical imagination, and dreams. Here the College is in the process of construction on an oblique perspective grid surrounded by bizarre surreal visions, trapped, sealed and frozen in time. The sky is filled with the luminous trails of angels – or demons.
This work is an unframed canvas which can be hung directly on the wall.
