Project: The Dalmore Distillery

The Dalmore Single Malt Whisky has been home to whisky making artistry since 1839. A peerless catalogue of rare whisky releases have been born at its distillery nestled in the Scottish Highlands, and today The Dalmore is a brand admired around the world. In 2022 The Dalmore set to reimagine its home, reflective of the exceptional whisky that is crafted there and create a guest experience befitting its market-leading position.

Threesixty Architecture’s vision was to create a unique visitor experience, respectful of the historic estate and the extraordinary care taken in the creation of The Dalmore’s exceptional Single Malt, renowned for its depth and finesse. Each space within the redeveloped distillery tells a compelling story, that weaves together the past, present and potential. The experience is a balance of intimate moments and the splendour of The Dalmore's symphony of idiosyncratic stills. A sense of the place is intrinsic to how the vision will manifest and is an echo to the performative quality of The Dalmore as a Masterpiece of Malt. Collectively the buildings are at ease in the landscape alongside the Cromarty Firth and offer intrigue from a distance.

The tactile architectural model became an invaluable design tool, fostering collective decision making for how the experience would come to life. Using colour and materiality the model clearly identifies the difference between the existing and proposed buildings acting as a diagram to illustrate the complexities of the site. The ability to remove roof elements allowed the client to visually and physically explore the building's internal layout to better understand how guests will journey through the spaces.
