'After leaving teacher training college I chose to take my first job in the Western Isles where I was the sole art teacher for all the schools in Harris and North Uist for two and a half years. To set the period, I was living in South Harris when electricity arrived and North Uist did not have electricity while I lived there. This work I painted on Harris shows the spring landscape of the "Bays" area as in 1957.'
