Art can provide solace when circumstances are beyond our control. With this in mind, the Royal Scottish Academy and The Academicians’ Gallery are pleased to present an online exhibition of works by Royal Scottish Academicians created during lockdown. With studios and workshops closed, the lockdown has required artists to adapt in order to practise, but the challenge has brought opportunity, and this exhibition shows Academicians continuing to work with ingenuity and flair.
Whilst some Academicians, who have the advantage of home studios, have continued to work relatively unaffected by the restrictions of lockdown, others have found previously unused corners of their homes and gardens in which to work whilst their studios are closed. As a result, the exhibition features some works undertaken on an uncharacteristically domestic scale or with the simplest of media - pencil or pen on paper.
Although the gallery is closed, the RSA is committed to continuing to support the work of our Members and the wider arts community in Scotland. Our online exhibitions programme is intended to bring art into the homes of our visitors and supporters who we hope to welcome back to the gallery soon. All profits from the Royal Scottish Academy's exhibition programme are re-invested to support the visual arts in Scotland.
