Bill Scott (1935-2012) was a much respected Scottish sculptor and Professor of Sculpture at the Edinburgh College of Art.
In the course of his long career Scott made a wide variety of works in bronze, wood and as mixed media constructions through which he considered our understanding of history and our aspirations for the future; the rituals and patterns of daily life; how we define, shape and animate public and private spaces; and our intellectual and physical endeavours in the modern world. In this book Scott’s work and his recurring themes are given the space to be explored afresh.
Scott’s other contributions to the Scottish art world include serving as the first sculptor to be elected President of the Royal Scottish Academy and as the long-standing Chairman of the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop.
The book title is in Scott’s own lettering, drawn and modelled by the artist for the Jock Stein Memorial, 1986, commissioned by Dunfermline Athletic Football Club.
