In common with many artists, I am used to spending a lot of time on my own. However enforced isolation is a bit different and, like everyone else, I am having to find ways to cope with this. Over the weeks spent in isolation I have had to learn and adapt to new ways of communicating with friends and colleagues. As regards my own practice, I have turned to drawing which has always been the linchpin of my practice as an artist. I particularly enjoy working in sketchbooks and essentially this has always been a very private activity, used to explore and develop ideas.

As I often try to make drawings every day, the sketchbook becomes a journal, recording my thoughts and emotions from one day to the next. I recently began to post a selection of images from my current sketchbook online, letting others see what little games I have been playing. My other recent art-related activities include making simple monoprints outdoors in the garden and using recycled packaging for small mixed-media panels. All very low-tech and great fun! None of these activities are planned around making serious art at this time but are, for me, ways of living in the moment.
