James Castle RSA

James Castle RSA is a Scottish sculptor living and working in Wiltshire. Born in Aberdeen in 1946, Castle studied at Ealing School of Art, Winchester School of Art and the Royal College of Art, London.

Castle's sculptures are often carved from limewood and then painted. Drawing plays an integral role in his process of realising a finished work. Castle often uses animals as a metaphor for the human condition, owing to 'the fact that we like to bestow these creatures with the same kind of emotions as our own'.
