Stuart Mackenzie RSA: Species Morphology

18 May - 16 June 2019

Species Morphology is an exhibition of new works by Stuart MacKenzie RSA. From a family of land workers and gamekeepers, in recent years Mackenzie has been working on a project which investigates phenomena that exist in nature and the related morphological and transformative characteristics. MacKenzie’s work looks to the similarities between the alchemical and mercurial processes of nature and those inherent to the processes of painting, drawing and printmaking.

The resulting autographic works embrace improvisation and interrogate the dialogue that exists between representation and abstraction. This exhibition in the RSA Academicians’ Gallery will include new work in a variety of formats with depictions of fish, birds and other animals. MacKenzie is a senior lecturer at Glasgow School of Art and has been a Royal Scottish Academician since 2013.
